1. How did patterns of family life and attitudes toward women differ in the northern and southern colonies?

Women in the southern colonies married young and had children who often didn't survive. Family structure was unstable and children were often unsupervised. Women in the northern colonies married young but had children who often survived birth and had stronger family structures. In these colonies, women were highly valued although men still had complete authority.


2.How did the lives of African slaves change over the course of the first century of slavery?

When slavery first began slaves were treated similarly to indentured servants and could be freed after a period of time. As race distinction became more prevalent, slaves remained in slavery their whole lives


3. Who emigrated to North America in the seventeenth century , and why did they come ?

Indentures looking for a better life in America.


4 What was the intellectual culture of colonial America ?


In literature, printing presses began to emerge in every colony while in philosophy, people like John Locke discussed democracy and freedom of speech. In science, Ben Franklin and other scientists performed groundbreaking experiments and education became mandatory for white males.
